Cancun, Q.R. — A commander of the Cancun prison was killed early Sunday morning while driving toward his home after a work shift. The report of the death of Commander José Carlos Ortiz Ontiveros was confirmed by the Secretary of Public Security of Quintana Roo, Alberto Capella Ibarra.
On social media, Capella said, “At 6:44 am today, Commander José Carlos Ortiz Ontiveros, responsible for the custodians of the Cancun Cereso, was COWARDLY assassinated. Our condolences and full support to his family. We will be relentless to find the cowards responsible.”
The death of the 52-year-old commander was reported at 6:44 a.m. in SM 207 when men allegedly ambushed him while in his car. He was shot several times and died. He was found in the driver’s seat of his private vehicle.
Paramedics, who were called to the scene, confirmed the death, while police officers cordoned off the area and launched a search of those responsible, however, arrests were not announced.
