Cancun, Q.R. — Weekend check stops around the city of Cancun saw another 108 drivers sent to jail for failing their breath test.
In a press release, Cancun authorities reported 352 breath tests were given to motorists of which 108 failed and were sent to the Torito for driving under the influence.
In their statement, authorities reported the Drive Without Alcohol program was implemented in the main streets and avenues of the city. During the two day stops, traffic officers conducted 709 interviews and 352 breath tests resulting in 108 fails of which three were taxi drivers.
Cancun police say the purpose of the program is to raise awareness among motorists not to drive while intoxicated in order to avoid accidents and generate adequate road culture in Cancun.
