Cancun, Q.R. — An armed man who allegedly robbed a store then shot a police officer in the chest while attempting to flee, was killed by Cancun police. The incident happened in Region 220 Tuesday afternoon.
Reports say it was around 1:20 p.m. when two subjects entered the small Cancun grocery store and threatened staff with a firearm while demanding cash.
A Municipal Police patrol was alerted to the robbery. Upon their arrival, one officer was shot in the chest, but saved by his bulletproof vest. Other agents proceeded to return fire, killing the alleged male shooter.
The second man involved in the robbery was taken into police custody. Personnel from Semefo arrived to remove the deceased. Neither men involved in the robbery were identified.
