Cancun, Q.R. — Shots of gunfire were exchanged between Cancun police and criminal gang members early Sunday morning. Residents in the Alfredo V. Bonfil region were witness to the exchange that lead to the arrest of one person.
It was around 2:25 a.m. when officers responding to the report of armed people ended up becoming their target. The Cancun officers were shot at by people from inside an SUV and from gang members passing on a motorcycle.
Police fired back, requesting assistance in the process. Other officers arrived to provide back up, which lead to a chase of the SUV. The vehicle was located on Huayacán Avenue with one male inside who was arrested. The SUV had out-of-state plates.
No human injuries were reported, however, one of the police units was hit by gunfire.
