Cancun, Q. R. — Police continue to investigate the report of two bodies found floating in the Nichupté Lagoon Friday afternoon.
According to the SSC (Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana) of Quintana Roo, the report was received by the C5 in Cancun around 1:00 p.m. Emergency 911, which is connected to the C5, forwarded the report to police.
Responding officers were alerted to the report of a body floating in the lagoon at kilometer 3 of Kukulkan Boulevard. “Upon arrival, the elements noticed one of the lifeless people floating, while another, who was in a state of putrefaction, lay near the mangrove,” the SSC reported in a statement.
Elements of the State Attorney General’s Office went to the area to carry out the removal of the bodies and start with the corresponding investigations. So far, authroties have reported that one of the bodies found was located naked and without injuries. The second body was located with bites consistent with wild animals.
Autopsies will be conducted on both to determine an official cause of death.
