Cancun police continue searching for armed men in attempted mall robbery

Cancun, Q.R. — Police in Cancun are investigating a mall robbery that happened Monday evening. Employees of Arte Joyero jewelry store reported the attempted robbery inside the Gran Plaza.

According to initial reports, four armed men entered the store Monday around 8:00 p.m. and broke glass display cases in order to grab visible items. The loud sounds of breaking glass and frightened staff quickly caused the group to run off.

Witnesses said the four men ran from the store into the underground parkade. Two boarded a motorcycle while the other two are reported to have stolen a car to get away.

State Police were at the scene collecting statements from employees while municipal police began a search. Police searched for the armed men Monday but have not announced the arrests of any suspects.

Following the robbery, Cancun Police issued a statement saying authorities responded immediately to the robbery report and that there were no injuries. They also clarified that there were no shots fired and that no shell casings were found at the scene.
