Cancun police attend to driver hit in the face by bullet

Cancun, Q.R. — A man who was injured by a bullet while highway driving was helped by Cancun police. On Wednesday, the unidentified man was driving his SUV south of Cancun when he was hit in the face by a bullet.

The man was able to continue driving to the C5 Centre of Cancun where he asked for help. Once there, he and his passenger were able to detail that he was shot by subjects in a red mazda.

The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. The driver told police that he was traveling along the highway when he “was attacked while driving Highway 307.” He was reportadly near the airport when the bullet hit him.

An ambulance was called to the C5 Command Centre of Cancun. Paramedics treated the driver. The extent of his facial injury is not known.

In a brief statement, the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC) of Quintana Roo commented on the incident.

“Support was provided in the C5 to a person injured on the Puerto Morelos – Benito Juárez highway. In relation to the presence of a person injured by a firearm outside the C5 Security Complex, the Secretariat of Citizen Security of Quintana Roo informs that on Wednesday afternoon, a citizen arrived at the agency’s facilities requesting help.

“He reported having been attacked while driving on Highway 307 in the lane that leads from Puerto Morelos to Cancun. After being medically treated by personnel from this unit, the elements requested the support of an ambulance for him to receive the necessary help.

“At all times the young man was protected and helped. It will be the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) that will carry out the corresponding investigations.”
