Cancun police arrest their own: Two active officers in custody for sexual assault and concealment

Cancun, Q.R. — Two Cancun police officers have been arrested, one for sexual assault and the other for concealment. The two active officers were taken into custody Tuesday on allegations of assaulting a woman during a false arrest.

The State Attorney General’s Office, in coordination with the Internal Affairs unit of the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security, fulfilled an arrest warrant against two municipal police officers Tuesday.

Saúl Vladimir “N” and Alfredo “N” remain in custody “for their probable participation in acts possibly constituting crimes of sexual abuse and concealment, against a victim of Colombian nationality,” local authorities reported.

According to the State Attorney General (FGE), “the officers put the victim in a patrol car arguing that she had committed illegal acts. Later, they took her to an unknown location where Saúl Vladimir “N” performed a supposed routine inspection and carried out the alleged sexual acts with the promise that they would help her get out of jail.”

The woman, a Colombian national, filed a complaint with Cancun police. The assault took place in SM 63 of Cancun on October 12.

“After the integration of the file, the FGE requested and obtained from a judge an arrest warrant against Saúl Vladimir “N” for the crime of sexual abuse and Alfredo “N” for concealment,” they reported.

Cancun Mayor Ana Patricia Peralta said Tuesday they will continue to assist the Attorney General’s Office with the investigation, adding that there are cameras in the patrol cars.

“We will not tolerate this. We will apply the full weight of the law. We will continue to assist the Attorney General’s Office with the investigation.

“We have all the elements because we have cameras in the patrol cars, we have everything that can complement the investigations,” she said.

“The current misdeeds of a few police officers have tarnished an entire corporation that is doing a good job. There are police officers who do an extraordinary job and are giving their best. It is not fair that a bad perception of the corporation is generated because of a few elements.,” she added.
