Cancun, Q. R. — The Municipality of Benito Juárez has denied the request for permission to carry out a bullfight that was advertised in Cancun for the month of December.
City officials denied the request for the December 20th event that was to take place in Plaza de Toros as part of a 30th anniversary celebration for the Coso de la Bonampak foundation.
The bullfight, which was pre-advertised with some local businesses reportedly already selling tickets, was denied in accordance with Article 40 of the Reglamento de Espectáculos y Diversiones Públicas de Benito Juárez along with citing the new Animal Welfare and Protection Act, which prohibits bullfighting.
The recently reformed Article 40, Section XII, prohibits bullfighting and cockfighting in the state of Quintana Roo.
