Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun police officer who was shot in the leg continues to recuperate in hospital. The officer was shot Wednesday morning while in the field. He was investigating a crime with another officer in SM 251 when they were attacked.
Emergency services received the report of shots fired in the Prado Norte subdivision and that one officer had been hit. His female partner drove him to hospital where he was received for treatment of a bullet wound to his left knee.
According to preliminary information, the two officers from the Cyber Crimes division were conducting field work around 9:00 a.m. on Chacah Street when three men in a pickup intercepted them and began shooting.
The female officer returned fire. Her male counterpart was hit by one of the bullets. Quintana Roo Police began a search for the described vehicle, but there are no reported suspects in custody. Guards were posted outside the hospital where the officer was being treated. Authorities have not publicly commented on the shooting.
