Cancun officer facing disciplinary action for leaving assignment ‘under the influence of alcohol’

Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun police officer is facing disciplinary action after abandoning his post and being found intoxicated while on the job. Authorities became aware of the incident after residents called 9-1-1 reporting a physical altercation between two city officers.

The incident was reported early Monday morning after the call was made by residents in Valle Verde. The fight happened between an on-duty male officer and an off-duty female officer.

Responding police arrived to find off-duty officer Rubi “N” in a physical altercation with her on-duty police officer husband. Her husband had arrived at their home unexpectedly, allegedly leaving his assignment which was to support the city’s Green Patrol units.

An argument began that lead to Rubi “N” being physically assaulted. When police arrived, they found their on-duty counterpart “under the influence of alcohol”.

“We initiated disciplinary proceedings against an officer who left his service under the influence of alcohol. The case was referred to the Honor and Justice Council for possible dismissal. At the SMSCyT, we reaffirm our commitment to discipline and professionalism,” Cancun Police reported Monday.
