Cancun officer credited with saving man from burning home

Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun police officer has been credited with saving the life of a man from a burning home. Neighbors reported the house fire to emergency services Friday, however, police were first on scene.

One of the responding officers kicked in the front door of the engulfed home, locating a man in a back room. The man was unable to escape due to the thick smoke that filled the house. The officer threw the man over his shoulder and walked him out of the burning building.

The fire was reported in a home in Tres Reyes. Other officers assisted in his rescue and were able to put the kitchen fire out themselves before firemen arrived.

Police say the 45 year old occupant of the home was cooking while intoxicated and left a pan on an open flame. Seveal nearby items caught fire including a wood structure.

Firefighters arrived to ensure the fire inside was controlled. Civil Protection personnel were also at the home for the corresponding investigation. Cancun police have not named the local hero.
