Cancun, Q.R. — A security guard at a Cancun seafood restaurant was shot Wednesday morning while on the job. The shooting happened at a restaurant on Nichupté Avenue in SM 17.
Resident reports of gunfire to 911 quickly had police on scene who found the shot security guard. According to the Citizen Security Secretariat, the victim was taken to the General Hospital in serious condition.
The unidentified night watchman was shot after he found two people trying to set fire to the establishment. He described the pair as being dressed in work vests and helmets. They arrived on a motorcycle and were in the process of spraying fuel when he saw them.
He was shot in the chest and rushed to hospital. His condition is not known.
It is the second shooting at the same restaurant since May. In May of this year, another security guard was shot while guarding the same Cancun eatery.
