Cancun, Q.R. — The driver of a mototaxi was shot and killed Tuesday night in Region 259 of Cancun. Witnesses told police the driver was shot at by another Cancun taxi driver.
The shooting happened while the driver of the motorcycle taxi was traveling along Avenida Margaritas in the Villas Otoch Paraíso subdivision. When approaching an intersection, he was intercepted by a Cancun (car) taxi.
The taxi driver allegedly took aim and fired at the motorcycle taxi driver, hitting him several times before fleeing. Witnesses to the shooting provided police with the number of the taxi unit who shot the mototaxi driver.
Paramedics were called to the scene, but the mototaxi driver had died. Paramedics did provided medical care to a bystander who was hit by bullet fragments when she exited a pharmacy near the scene of the shooting.
