Cancun motorcyclist dies after failed roadway U-turn

Cancun, Q.R. — A motorcycle driver was killed in Cancun Monday after colliding with the back of a water truck. Motorists stopped to help the male driver of the motorcycle while calling emergency services.

Municipal Transit and National Guard arrived at the scene followed by an ambulance. Paramedics confirmed the motorcycle driver had already died. The accident was reported shortly after noon Monday on José López Portillo Avenue near the Arco Vial.

The accident is reported to have been the result of a failed U-turn by the driver of the motorcycle. The driver of the water truck hopped out of his cab and fled before police arrived leaving his truck abandoned in the middle of the city avenue.

Traffic was heavily congested since the accident left two lanes completely shut. Transit officials are using city surveillance to track down the driver of the heavy unit. The deceased motorcycle driver has not been identified.
