Cancun, Q.R. — The FGE has started an investigation into the broad daylight shooting death of a man inside an ATM. On Monday, a Cancun resident was shot to death while inside a bank ATM area for resisting a robbery.
The deadly attack happened in the city’s central area of Mercado 28 Monday afternoon around 3:00. Police were called to the scene where they found the shot man laying dead on the floor inside the ATM area of the bank.
In a brief statement, authorities said “the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) is carrying out the corresponding investigations, as well as the analysis of the video surveillance cameras, to clarify the motive of the crime and find the person or persons responsible.”
According to available information, witnesses reported seeing the man inside the bank with a backpack. He was depositing money when he was approached by an individual who tried to take the backpack.
In his refusal to hand it over, he was shot twice and left for dead. The man was reportedly shot in the chest and head by his attacker before the gunman fled on a motorcycle.

Municipal Police cordoned off the area Monday afternoon while FGE personnel arrived to gather information and begin their investigation.
