Cancun man facing 16 years over simulated kidnapping

Cancun, Q.R. — José Luis “N” has been charged for a simulated kidnapping that took place in Cancun in August. On Thursday, a Cancun judge ordered him to remain in preventative detention after his arraignment.

According to an FGE statement, he will be tried for “the crime of kidnapping in its simulation modality to the detriment of a girl in events that occurred on August 20 of this year.

“Based on the first acts of investigation, it was established that the accused, taking advantage of the family relationship and closeness, took the minor to a home in SM 255 where, in the company of another person, by telephone requested a payment in cash for the ransom of the victim.”

A Cancun judge issued an arrest warrant against José Luis “N”, which was completed by elements of the Investigative Police on September 8. According to the FGE, José Luis “N” could be sentenced to as many as 16 years in prison.
