Cancun man electrocuted by low lying CFE cables

Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun residents in SM 72 called 9-1-1 after hearing a loud electrical discharge Tuesday night. City officers responding to the report of the noise arrived to find a dead man.

The unidentified man was killed after he made contact with a set of low-lying electric wires. Paramedics were requested by police who pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The accident happened late Tuesday night on Torcacita Avenue where the man is believed to have come into contact with the CFE cables while crossing the wet street. According to early information, a transformer is believed to have exploded resulting in a set of cables landing on the street.

The man was walking through the area during the late night rain when he came into contact with the wires. Cancun firemen freed the body of the wires after CFE cut power.

Cancun authorities have not commented on responsibility or possible charges.
