Cancun, Q.R. — Miguel Torruco Marqués, the Secretary of Tourism for the government of Mexico, says more than 190,000 flights are anticipated for the country during 2022.
The head of the federal tourism agency reported that according to information from the Official Airline Guide, from January to December of 2022, 190,513 flights are scheduled into Mexico.
He said the figures represent an increase of 2.1 percent over what was registered in 2019, with 186,500 flight operations. He added that for 2022, those 190,000 flights will offer passengers more than 31 million seats into the country.
The Secretario de Turismo del Gobierno de México added that those figures are also an increase compared to the more than 24 million passengers transported in 2019.
He elaborated that five of Mexico’s top destinations with the highest number of anticipated flights for 2022 include Cancun with 56,951 flights followed by Mexico City with 55,737 flights and San José del Cabo with 16,301 flights.
The remaining two on the top five list for 2022 include Guadalajara with 15,764 scheduled flights and Puerto Vallarta with 13,174 flights.
In December, the city of Cancun was listed as the second most important global destination, having received 4 percent of all international travel. Cancun trailed behind Dubai, who recorded 5 percent of global travelers. It was the first time Cancun made that list.
