Cancun, Q.R. — The city of Cancun kicked off the holiday season with the opening of its Christmas Village. On Tuesday, Governor Mara Lezama, along with Cancun Mayor Ana Paty Peralta, launched the public event.

The Christmas Village is set up along the water’s edge of Malecón Tajamar and opened Tuesday night. It consists of 12 family areas that include train rides, ice skating, snow flurries, food and a Ferris wheel.

During the opening ceremony, Governor Lezama said “we must carry love, we must be the best version of ourselves. And this is a perfect time to smooth over those rough edges and heal those wounds. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas.”

Until January 6, the public is invited, free of charge, to visit the Cancun Christmas Village that offers kids activities, free train rides and free ice skating. Adults will enjoy walking through the market stands where there are esquites, tacos, breads, frappes, churros, cakes, quesadillas and much more.

The Cancun Christmas Village also boasts a Ferris wheel, a Christmas tree and photo backdrop for family picture taking and is open from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. each night.

“The point is to build community, to have grandma, grandpa and friends come together. What do we want? For everyone to have a happy Christmas, but it’s worth it if we do it as a family,” said Lezama.

Mayor Ana Paty Peralta said she was happy to be involved in such a tremendous Christmas atmosphere, where, also on Tuesday night, a Christmas exhibition was inagurated in front of Cancun City Hall.

“For me it is a true honor to share this moment with my great team who I consider family. The staff of City Hall make a family who sustain this city, working every day to make this city function,” Peralta said.

Cancun City Hall also kicked off the holiday season with a celebration in front of the municipal palace. December 16, 2025.
