Cancun judge orders trial against three for business extortion

Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun  judge issued an order to proceed to trial for three men for extortion. Police say Sergio Alejandro “N”, Ausencio “N” and Silverio “N” have been charged for extorting a business owner for protection money.

Authorities reported that on August 27 of this year, the three men went to an aluminum workshop to demand from the owner the amount of 2,500 pesos per month as payment for “protection money”.

If he failed to pay, they threatened to return to kidnap him and kill him.

Subsequently, on September 15, they appeared at the victim’s workshop to collect the demanded amount. The victim gave them 1,900 pesos, which was all he could gather, and filed a complaint with police.

Arrest warrants were issued and all three were eventually detained by Investigative Police.

In court Thursday, the judge formally charged Sergio Alejandro “N”, Ausencio “N” and Silverio “N”, and imposed the precautionary measure of preventive detention for a term of two years or the time in which the judicial process against them is developed.
