Cancun judge hands down 43 year sentence for murder of girlfriend in front of child

Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun judge has handed down a 43 year prison sentence for a 2020 murder. Alexis “N” has been sentenced to 43 years and nine months after being convicted for the murder of his former girlfriend.

After stabbing her to death, he cut her wrist to make the murder look like a suicide. The murder and subsequent mutilation of the woman’s body took place in front of her minor daughter.

The murder “occurred on August 2, 2020, when the victim, who was his former girlfriend, was at his home located on Orquídeas Street in SM 311 at approximately 2 in the morning, after celebrating her 24th birthday,” the State Attorney General reported Friday.

“Alexis “N” subdued the woman and injured her in the chest with a knife, causing a wound that took her life. Later, he made a cut on her left wrist in order to make it appear that the injuries had been self-inflicted. All this in the presence of her small daughter,” the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) released in a public statement.

Aside from a lengthy prison sentence, Alexis “N” must pay a fine of 228,600 pesos as well as reparation of material damage in the amount of 623,499 pesos.
