Cancun, Q.R. — After several days of tension and protests, taxi drivers from Isla Mujeres and Cancun have signed an agreement to provide service within their authorized areas between the municipalities of Benito Juárez and Isla Mujeres.
The agreement was endorsed by the Deputy Secretary of State Government, the Director of the Mobility Institute in Quintana Roo and the taxi driver’s unions which defines the tolerance zone in both municipalities so that operators, interchangeably, can provide service to passengers.
According to information provided, it was also agreed that operators who do not respect the agreed upon areas would be sanctioned.
Operators from the Gustavo Díaz Ordaz Chauffeurs Union of Isla Mujeres and the Andrés Quintana Roo Taxi Drivers Union have been clashing over territorial rights between areas of Cancun and Isla Mujeres Mainland.
