Cancun, Q.R. — A pizzeria was destroyed in an early morning fire in the Cancun Hotel Zone Saturday. Cancun firemen were part of the responding team to the report of the 6:35 a.m. blaze that left the two-story establishment blackened.
Emergency teams and two fire trucks were sent to the scene of what was believed to be a fire inside Hooters. However, when they arrived, emergency personnel learned the fire was in the adjacent business.
On Saturday morning, Tránsito de Cancún posted on social media “Bomberos Cancun personnel in coordination with Civil Protection Cancun attend to a registered fire at Km 9 of Blvd. Kukulcán, while Policias Cancun said “Fire is reported inside the Hooters restaurant, Boulevard Kukulkan km 9 Cancun Hotel Zone in front of Plaza Forum in the direction of descent to the center. Emergency units working on the scene. take alternate routes.”
The fire is said to have started in the kitchen of the pizzeria. Other nearby businesses were fire and water damaged to varying degrees, including Hooters. Authorities continue to investigate the cause.
