Cancun Hotel Association demands immediate solution to ongoing blackouts

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The Association of Hotels of Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres issued a statement to the CFE regarding the ongoing blackouts. The Association says the power outages in the northern zone are creating serious economic losses to companies, hotels and the general public.

The direct affectations are in different aspects, including the interruption of the water supply that depends on high voltage electrical energy for its operation. “In this matter, we also ask Aguakan to implement the necessary measures and equipment so as not to interrupt the water supply due to a power failure,” they said.

As for the CFE, the Association pointed out that “the requirement to the CFE is for an immediate solution by modernizing its equipment and facilities.”

In their statement, the Hotel Association said that the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) must fulfill its mission of providing the public electricity service with criteria of sufficiency, competitiveness and sustainability, for which they request the intervention of the Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa.

They have requested that Lezama meet with the federal CFE personnel for a prompt solution to the problem that is affecting the economy and tourist image. The Hotel Association stated that all the municipalities involved are world-class tourist destinations and that the essential services provided by the CFE should be the same.
