Authorities investigate cause of Cancun CFE yard fire

Cancun, Q.R. — A storage yard belonging to the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) caught fire in Cancun. The junk yard, which was used to store aged poles, transformers and even some vehicles and generators, was completely burned.

Cancun firemen were called to the scene of the fire on Chac Mool Avenue in SM 96 Wednesday night where they were met by other emergency service personnel. Firemen were at the scene for more than an hour working to extinguish the burning material.

Due to the intensity of the fire, Cancun Transit were forced to temporarily shut the road, creating a line of backed-up traffic. Authorities have reported only extensive material damage, no human injuries. Investigators continue to work to find the cause of the blaze.
