Cancun firemen relocate wandering croc from residential sidewalk

Cancun, Q.R. — Residents in SM 84 called authorities after watching a large crocodile walk down their sidewalk. Officers from the Secretariat of Citizen Security and Traffic (SMSCyT), who were at nearby Playa del Niño were first on scene Tuesday night.

After verifying the wandering croc, Cancun firemen were requested for its removal. The 1.5 meter-long reptile was quickly captured with a jacket. Two firemen sat on him while he was roped and readied for removal. The adult crocodile was returned to a nearby lagoon.

The crocodile is one of several seen wandering residential areas in recent weeks. Earlier this month, environmental authorities in Cancun made cuts in the fence surrounding the Tajamar area. The adjustments in the wire fence were made after several crocodiles were captured on video walking down sidewalks after being unable to return to the mangrove.
