Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun firemen are still at the scene of a stubborn building fire in central Cancun. The fire started in an abandoned warehouse building in a residential area around noon Monday.
People who live across from the building reported seeing smoke coming from the inside. Firemen have been on the scene more than six hours trying to control the fire.
The fire started inside an old warehouse on Tulum Avenue. Plumes of thick black smoke was visible from the Cancun Hotel Zone.

At the time of the fire, the Cancun Fire Department said “Our Cancun Fire Department is currently responding to a fire in SM 89 at an office building on Av. Tulum (between Routes 4 and 5).
“Please take precautions when traveling through this area and follow all instructions from the authorities present.”
By early evening, the city’s firefighters were still on scene.
“We continue to respond and work in coordination in SM 89 to control the fire in a warehouse.
“Our Cancun Fire Department and Cancun Civil Protection are working to fully extinguish the fire, prioritizing the safety of families and risk prevention in the area. Protection protocols, preventive closures, and evacuation of surrounding areas remain in effect to safeguard the population.
“We ask the public to stay informed through official channels and respect the instructions in the area,” they said.
A cause for the fire has yet to be determined.
