Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun firemen were successful in extinguishing a burning transformer used to power a grocery store. The commercial Cancun Hotel Zone fire was reported to authorities early Wednesday morning.
Cancun firemen were made aware of the flames seen inside a CFE (Comisión Federal de Electricidad) electric box around 2:00 a.m. By the time firemen arrived, the entire box was in flames.
The Cancun Fire Department arrived at the fire location at kilometer 8.5 of Kukulcán Boulevard where, after a few minutes, the flames were out.
It is the second time in as many days that a commercial Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) transformer box has caught fire.
On Monday afternoon, Cancun firemen were called to a shopping plaza after thick black smoke was seen between two buildings. That black smoke turned out to also be a burning transformer.
