Cancun, Q.R. — The Cancun Fire Department responded to the report of flames early Tuesday morning. The fire was reported at around 4:20 a.m. at the old garbage dump of Isla Mujeres.
The Cancun fire department (Heroico Cuerpo de Bomberos de Cancún) spent several hours battling the stubborn flames. Heavy machinery was brought in to remove surrounding vegetation to prevent the fire from continuing to spread.
Thirteen firemen from Cancun spent nearly five hours trying to put out the fire that started in the old Isla Mujeres dumping grounds. It was around 9:00 a.m. when firemen determined flames were out and that the fire consumed approximately 100 square meters of land.
No injuries were reported. A cause for the fire remains undetermined.
