Cancun, Q.R. — The Cancun Fire Department has reported excess steam in a kitchen the reason for a weekend fire alarm. On Saturday night, firemen responded to a tripped fire alarm situation inside a Cancun Hotel Zone movie theater.
Emergency services were dispatched to the plaza Saturday night after being notified of the automatic activation of the alarm. Once on site, personnel proceeded to evacuate the movie theater of staff and movie goers.
While reviewing the cause of the automatic activation, firemen determined that excessive hot steam from a kitchen oven was responsible for tripping the alarm.
The Cancun Fire Department confirmed the cause Sunday in a briefing, noting no fire and no injuries.
“Cancun Fire Department personnel responded to a fire alarm activation in a movie theater located inside a shopping mall in the hotel zone.

“Upon arrival, firefighters conducted an inspection and determined that the activation was caused by excess steam in an oven in the kitchen area. No fire or risk to people was reported.
“As part of safety protocols, movie theater staff preemptively evacuated employees and patrons to the lobby. After the inspection, it was confirmed that the area was safe, and preventive recommendations were issued to staff.
“We remind everyone of the importance of following evacuation protocols and heeding the instructions of emergency personnel.”
