Cancun drivers diverted around fiery three vehicle crash

Cancun, Q.R. — A fiery three vehicle accident on Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard created traffic chaos Sunday. One driver was taken to hospital after two vans and a car collided just before 9:00 a.m.

One of the vehicles began to smoke that eventually caught all three on fire. November 30, 2025.

The three vehicle crunch left Sunday morning traffic backed up for kilometers. Cancun Transit were at the scene where one of the vans was found on its side and smoking.

Within a few minutes, that smoke turned to flames and quickly spread, engulfing all three vehicles. Due to the fire, drivers had to be diverted around the area, further congesting Cancun weekend traffic.

Two of the three vehicles were heading toward the airport at the time of the crash. Two vans heading in the same direction collided, leaving one on its side and the second to slam into a car.

Cancun Transit diverted traffic due to the three vehicle fire Sunday morning.

That car is reported to have been a Playa del Carmen taxi. The preliminary traffic report details excessive speed, wet pavement and reckless driving as the cause of the accident by one of the van drivers.

Passing motorists stopped to help those inside the involved vehicles get out before the fire started. The driver of the overturned van was the only person reported injured. He was transferred to hospital.

Authorities are continuing to gather information to determine exactly how the accident happened.
