Cancun driver tries to flee accident scene that left cars destroyed

Cancun, Q.R. — Two private vehicles were destroyed Friday night in a head-on collision in Cancun. Early reports say one of the drivers invaded the oncoming lane where they crashed into the second vehicle.

Cancun Transit were at the scene shortly after midnight near the La Joya subdivision. Both vehicles were found totaled in roadside vegetation off the Arco Vial.

The driver from inside one of the vehicles tried to escape before police arrived but was held at the scene by passing motorists who stopped to help. According to the preliminary police report, the male driver of the truck was under the influence of alcohol when he invaded the opposite lane and crashed head-on into the other car.

Both vehicles rolled several times before coming to a stop side-by-side off the city highway. City police and paramedics arrived at the scene to help in the rescue efforts of the injured, who were transferred to a Cancun hospital.

The driver alleged responsible was held for police after trying to flee the scene.

The driver accused of causing the accident tried to escape, but was handed over to the authorities. Traffic was affected for nearly two hours while police and emergency services dealt with the accident.
