Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun cyclist died Monday after being the victim of a hit and run. The fatal accident happened near the intersection of Felipe Carrillo Puerto Avenue and Vicente Suárez Street Monday morning.
Residents who witnessed the accident reported a taxi was responsible for running over the man on the bicycle. Emergency services were notified and paramedics sent in response to the call. The male cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was located several meters away from his crumpled bike.
Witnesses said the man was just starting to ride his bike across the street when he was struck by the taxi whose driver kept going. Cancun Transit requested assistance from the forensic medical services office since the man died.
Authorities did not comment on the fleeing driver alleged responsible for the fatal hit and run.
