Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun cyclist was killed Thursday morning while riding with a small group along Huayacán Avenue. At least three other bicyclists were transferred to hospital.
According to reports, the driver of a red Jetta crashed into the cyclists shortly after 8:00 a.m. One of the men riding a bicycle was pronounced on scene. Another cyclist was thrown into highway vegetation due to the impact.
The cyclists were all men. One of the injured cyclists is reported to be in serious condition. The deceased bicyclist has been named as Roger “A”, a Cancun school teacher.
The driver of the car, Martin “N”, also ended up in the highway shoulder vegetation. Due to the speed it was traveling, the car climbed a small embankment where it came to rest. The driver was also taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries.
Transit officers did not provide information on fault or possible charges.
