Cancun commander working as state bodyguard killed in crash

Cancun, Q.R. — A 48 year old Cancun man was killed Sunday during a collision with a pickup truck. Paramedics pronounced motorcycle Lucio “G” dead on the street after slamming into a pickup.

Cancun police were on scene Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Isla Cancun and Juárez Avenues where they found the dead man and two damaged vehicles. The two vehicle collided around 5:00 p.m. in the David Gustavo Gutiérrez neighborhood

The victim has been identified as a commander who was serving as a bodyguard for the state government. Authorities say they have launched an investigation to determine the official cause of the incident.

In a statement Monday, the SSC (Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana) of Quintana Roo said “The Citizen Security Secretariat of the State of Quintana Roo expresses its deepest regret regarding the passing of Police Officer Lucio Jesús Gamero Cachón, who served our institution with commitment, dedication, and a vocation for service.

“To his family, friends, and colleagues, we extend our sincere condolences. His legacy of service and camaraderie will always remain with us.”
