Cancun combi destroyed by fire after refueling at city station

Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun firemen were successful in putting out a large vehicle fire at a gas station without incident Friday. City firemen were requested at a Pemex gas station Friday afternoon on José López Portillo Avenue when a combi began to burn.

The driver of the public transport unit had just finished filling his tank when the incident happened. As he was leaving the station around 1:00 p.m., the engine caught fire.

Firemen located the public transport van on the edge of the Pemex property where the driver was attempting to join López Portillo Avenue. The engine fire quickly spread to the rest of the unit.

Traffic was diverted around the scene while firemen dealt with the blaze. The combi was not carrying any passengers at the time. Authorities have not reported any injuries in the fire.

Civil Protection personnel arrived to carry out the necessary investigative procedure to determine the official cause of the fire that left the unit completely destroyed.
