Cancun, Q.R. — A public transport van caught fire Wednesday morning on José López Portillo Avenue. The engine of the van began to smoke after arriving from a highway trip to Playa del Carmen.
Within minutes of smoking, flames were seen under the hood of the van. The people on board were able to get out before the unit caught fire. Members of the Benito Juárez Fire Department were called to the scene to put out the fire.
Municipal Police also arrived to secured the area, blocking traffic from passing through. The fire quickly spread to the rest of the van, completely consuming it. By the time firemen arrived, flames were already shooting out the side windows.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire. There were no injuries reported.
