Cancun bus driver jolted awake after crashing through city infrastructure

Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun bus driver was jolted awake after slamming his vehicle into trees. Cancun Tourist Police were on scene early Thursday morning after reports of the single vehicle crash.

The driver of the bus is alleged to have fallen asleep shortly after midnight at the wheel while traveling Kukulcán Boulevard in the Cancun Hotel Zone. The driver made it to Kilometer 8 where he swerved over a corner median, taking out palm trees and at least one city street lamp.

Infrastructure damage was substantial to both city property and the company bus. The bus finally came to a stop after plowing over concrete barriers and through a wire fence.

Paramedics provided first aid to the driver at the scene before he was transferred to hospital. He was the only occupant of the bus at the time of the accident. Cancun police did not comment on damage estimates or possible charges.
