Cancun, Q.R. — After a week of heavy rainfall and winds, several Cancun beaches were left with severe erosion. Cancun mayor Mara Lezama was on site to see the beach damage caused by the thunderstorms that hit the region the week before.
The city’s popular Playa Delfines was one of the hardest hit, suffering natural wear and tear that left some concrete structures exposed. For this, additional lifeguards were placed in the area to warn beachgoers about the exposed material, while Civil Protection inspectors and personnel from the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone worked on repairs as well as the placing of red flags.
Although the sandy banks were eroded and the stairs to lifeguard tower damaged, Lezama reported that the sea turtle nests were not affected. The city continues to work on repairing the damage caused by last week’s stormy system.
