Cancun, Q.R. — One youth from a group of Cancun beach party swimmers drowned Friday night in the Hotel Zone. Others at the beach called for help when they realized the young male swimmer was experiencing difficulty.
The incident happened at Playa Gaviota Azul in the Cancun Hotel Zone Friday night. According to reports, the now-deceased youth was with a group drinking and swimming when he was dragged away from the beach by the strong current.
In realizing what had happened, the other young group members fled as authrotieis approached. Since official lifeguards were off duty, personnel from Cancun Civil Protection retreived the young man’s body from the sea.
Tourist Police cordoned off the area as soon as paramedics confirmed his death on the sand.
