Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun police continue to investigate a fatal pedestrian accident outside the city early Friday morning. The young driver of an old model car was found hung up in the central highway median after colliding with a pedestrian.
The accident happened during the early hours of Friday along the federal highway south of Cancun. Passing motorists stopped at the scene where they found the badly damaged car and a deceased pedestrian nearby.
Due to the darkness, the hit pedestrian was run over by passing vehicles several times before police arrived. Emergency 9-1-1 was notified of the accident.
Municipal Police and National Guard responded to the reports. Authorities cordoned off the area of approximately 30 meters due to the scattered human remains along the highway.
Forensic Services was requested to collect the body. Authorities are working on an identification of the deceased. The young man found behind the wheel of the car alleged responsible for the fatal accident was taken into custody from the scene.
