Cancun, Q.R. — UPDATED: Cancun Tourist Police were at the scene of a finding Wednesday in the Cancun Hotel Zone. A tourist vessel passing through kilometer 4 of the lagoon waterway reported seeing human remains.
The body was reported floating in a section of the Nichupté lagoon around noon. Personnel from the Cancun Fire Department, Civil Protection and the Navy participated in the water search and recovery operation to remove the body from the lagoon.
Authorities have not provide specifics on the body, only that it was recovered with crocodile bites. Age, sex and nationality of the recovered body have not been provided by authorities. Forensics arrived for the official removal of the body. An autopsy will be preformed to determine a cause of death.
UPDATE: Authorities say the body recovered from the Nichupté lagoon Wednesday was only a torso. The torso was found floating near a mangrove around noon by a passing boat. Police have not said if the body is a male or female, only that it was found without arms, legs or a head. There is speculation, due to cut marks, that the body was dismembered before entering the lagoon.
