Cancun authorities monitor young croc swimming off Playa Langosta

Cancun, Q.R. — Civil Protection are monitoring the movement of a young crocodile seen swimming among boats at Playa Langosta. The young croc, which is approximately one and a half meters long, was reported enjoying the sea side rather than the lagoon side Monday.

His presence is what alerted Civil Protection personnel, who have been monitoring the reptile for capture and relocation. It was seen around 9:00 a.m. enjoying the clear sea water near a boat dock. By the time Civil Protection arrived, it had moved under a boat.

Authorities are monitoring his movement in the event he swims to shore. Photo: July 8, 2024.

Authorities monitored the croc and determined it was not a threat to anyone as long as it remained in the sea, however, they are keeping an eye on it in the event it swims to shore at which time it will be captured and relocated back to the lagoon.
