Cancun apartment destroyed after LP gas explosion

Cancun, Q.R. — Three people were rushed to Cancun hospital Friday after an LP gas explosion. Emergency 9-1-1 took the Friday afternoon call after the interior of an upper level apartment exploded in SM 327.

Cancun firemen found three adults inside the building suffering from burns. Two have been identified as Susan “S” and Jaziel “M”, both 60 from Guatemala and a local man, 41-year-old Manuel “A”. All three were residents of the building.

Paramedic Diana Coral reported all three were placed in burn wraps and rushed to two different Cancun hospitals.

The LP gas explosion happened inside an apartment in the Punta Estrella subdivision of the Polígono Sur in Cancun. Early information indicates a leak in a stationary tank. The entire inside of the apartment was blown outward onto the back of the building toward other units.

The unit’s kitchen was completely destroyed in the blast. Parts of the ceiling were also damaged. As well, both patio doors on the front exterior of the apartment were blown out due to the gas blast.

Cancun firemen continue to work with Civil Protection personnel to determine the exact cause of the gas explosion.
