Cancun ambulances transfer five to hospital after one killed in head on crash outside city

Lázaro Cárdenas, Q.R. — A two car head on crash along a section of the Cancun-Merida federal highway has killed at least one person. The early Monday morning accident happened in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas due west of Cancun.

The two vehicles that collided were both compact Chevrolet Beats. Traffic officers and firemen from Lázaro Cárdenas, as well as elements of the National Guard, were sent to the scene. Ambulances from Cancun arrived to transfer the five injured to hospital.

Lázaro Cárdenas firemen worked to free the deceased driver from behind the wheel of the car. Due to the high speed impact, the engine was pushed into the cab, pinning the driver who was found dead on scene.

According to preliminary reports, it was around 8:30 a.m. when one of the cars involved attempted to pass another on the narrow road. While in the oncoming lane, it collided head on with another car.
