Cancun airport traffic backlogged after massive semi blaze

Cancun, Q. R. — Traffic near the Cancun airport was backed up for kilometers Tuesday after a semi caught fire. The single trailer unit began to burn at the engine, which quickly spread to the rest of the body.

Cancun firemen rushed to Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard near the Cancun International Airport after reports of the fire. The semi began to burn after the driver crashed into a metal pole.

Smoke from the burning unit could be seen for a long distance away from the site. Traffic was backed up as emergency services took up a lane to attend to the large blaze. Eventually Transit Police arrived to delimited circulation due to the extent of the fire.

Paramedics attended to the driver who was not seriously injured. It is not known how the semi driver lost control and ended up crashing into the metal pole.
