Business owner reports man for falsifying position with City of Cancun and extortion attempt

Cancun, Q.R. — A man found wearing an official City of Cancun shirt was arrested after a woman reported him for extortion. The woman, who requested anonymity, reported the man after, according to her, he aggressively demanded money to allow her to continue operating her business.

Police handling the report found 50-year-old Juan N wearing an older model Benito Juárez City Council shirt that was issued to employees in 2016. According to Municipal Police, the woman accused the man of trying to extort 30,000 peso from her.

A patrol unit in SM 216 responded to the report which was made after the man was unable to prove that he was an employee of the Municipal Secretariat of Social and Economic Development.

He left the establishment but was later located by police and returned for a positive identification by the woman who owned the business.

Being unable to prove his City of Cancun employment to her or to police, he was arrested for extortion and for falsely representing a city official.
