Cancun, Q.R. — A criminal group member known for business extortion in the State of Mexico was arrested in Cancun. The federal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Omar García Harfuch, reported Thursday on the Tuesday arrest of Bernardo Alejandro “N”.

The arrest took place July 22 in Cancun in a coordinated operation between the Attorney General’s Office of Quintana Roo and personnel from the federal Secretario de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana (SSPC).
According to García Harfuch, an investigation lead police to his location in Cancun. He was wanted for aggravated extortion, operating a business-targeted extortion scheme under a criminal group. After his Tuesday arrest, Bernardo Alejandro “N” was transferred to the State of Mexico during the early hours of July 24th. He has since been admitted to a Penitentiary and Social Reintegration Center in the State of Mexico.
Garcia Harfuch reported that according to investigations, Bernardo Alejandro “N” was in charge, on behalf of a criminal group with origins in Michoacán, of selling chicken to merchants in the municipality of Ixtapan de la Sal.
According to authorities, on May 12, 2025, Bernardo Alejandro “N”, along with two other individuals, allegedly threatened the owner of a business, demanding that he buy the product only from them and imposing a fine for selling without his authorization.

The capture of Bernardo Alejandro “N” is part of “Operation Liberation”, which investigates the coercion exercised by criminal groups or individuals through businesses, by setting abusive quotas or prices and forcing merchants to buy, sell or acquire goods, supplies or services in pre-established places, under an extortion scheme.

“Operación Liberación” is a strategy coordinated by the Fiscalía General de Justicia del Estado de México (FGJEM) against extortion networks with criminal ties.
