Cancun, Q.R. — Ambulances transferred several injured bus passengers to Cancun hospital from a crash site Saturday night. Authorities were made aware of the 11:00 p.m. accident outside Cancun when the driver lost control and slammed into several trees.

Units from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP), paramedics and firefighters responded to the emergency that left an undisclosed number injured. Personnel continued to work late into the night to remove the bus passengers and transfer the injured.
National Guard Highways were on site manning traffic along the dark section of federal highway until the bus was finally towed. According to early information, the bus had left Merida and was heading to Cancun when it ended up in highway shoulder passing through thick jungle vegetation.

The bus finally came to rest after slamming into a large tree. Several of the bus’ windows were broken during the accident. Authorities did not provide an official number of injured. A cause for the single-vehicle crash is unknown.
